Maame Ewurabena Quartey widely known on social media as Winifred is a youngest female embalmer in Ghana, a morgue manager, a hearse driver and a funeral home specialist on a mission to clear the misconceptions about her job.

With a degree from Cape Coast Technical University, Ewurabena studied hospitality management with the aim to be a hotel receptionist among other hospitality management jobs. Hospitality doesn’t reflect on only the alive but the death, she added. Winifred has got other siblings as well with her big sis being a farmer. Although she had been helping at her dad’s morgue with one or two things it was unofficial, Ewura officially started managing her dad’s morgue (Jabez Dominic Funeral Home) 6 years ago even tho she was visiting the morgue at the age of 3.

My dad used to pick me up from school in his hearse and I enjoyed every moment especially using the siren, Ewura said. Ewurabena uses the traditional method to embalm bodies at her facilities, currently she has two of them one at Agona Swedru and the other at Gomoa Oguaa all in the Central region of Ghana.
Since it’s a family business, I always promised my dad that I’d one day take over from him and this seems to be a dream come true for me, she added. As of now, the beautiful youngest female embalmer in Ghana now owns 3 hearses. Apart from being a hearse driver,
Ewrurabena does the embalming of bodies herself, dresses corpse, sells casket etc. Her aim is to educate people on the misconceptions they have related to the morgue, hearse drivers etc and aswell as guide and teach people interested to learning on the job
